Phil Wood 40th anniversary complete bike

Phil Wood is out doing themselves again. For their 40th anniversary they are teaming up with Independent Fabrications to make 40 complete titanium bikes.

The frame will be built by IF and polished by Phil. The bike will feature a custom sterling silver Phil Wood head badge and Phil Wood made custom dropouts. Every set of dropouts will be made after a bike has been ordered and the geometry has been determined so that it fits the frame perfectly. The bikes will be built with special 40th anniversary Phil Wood hubs using all titanium hardware and carbonyte bearings. The 40th anniversary Phil Wood chainring and Phil Wood crank arms (not pictured) will be truly unique, and will be mated to a Phil Wood Titanium-Magnium bottom bracket. You can choose any size chainring, and extra 40th anniversary chainrings will be available at the time the bike is ordered. The Edge Composites fork, bar, stem, post, and rims will be finished in matte carbon with no decals or logos. You can choose of of two width Gilles Berthoud titanium railed saddles. Phil wood is working to build every component of this bike they can including custom valve stem caps and custom Phil bar tape. They will even come with a custom bike cover (think car cover but nicer). All the custom parts will all be numbered as shown on the closeup of the dropout. If you want a specific number say 40 of 40 as long as it has not been sold you can have it. It will truly be a unique bike. The bikes will be built with custom geometry and tubing selection to Independent Fabrications excellent standards, and will be built in the order they are purchased. The first bikes are expected to be delivered around mid May.

Complete bike weight is expected to be 14-15 pounds. Guess how much this mutha' gonna cost? USD15,500!

The Return of the Brooks Colt

First produced in 1979, the Colt became famous among Brooks fans for its strength and durability. The Colt was discontinued amidst mysterious circumstances occurring with the sale of Brooks in 2001, but still remains a common sight on roads and avenues around the globe, a testament to its aforementioned qualities. Oddly many a Colt found its home atop BMX bicycles during this time, an unusual deployment for a Brooks saddle, but certainly not inappropriate.

Today the Colt will appeal to a new generation already romanced by the 80's retro look, and will therefore be introduced in colours that will appeal to this younger, style-conscious demographic. The Colt is now available in Black, Violet, and Mustard, with Pink and Turquoise being presented at Eurobike 2010. The vibrant colours are achieved through natural vegetable dyes, as are all leathers in the Brooks product line.

Embrocation, the beautiful full-bleed cycling journal, has a race team. They've picked up Cinelli as a sponsor and like great supporters, they made the team custom Ram integrated bars and stem. Love it! Check out some more photos at the Embro Blog.

Gios Super Record

The guys at LA Brakeless have this gorgeous 1970's Gios track bike hanging in their shop. It sat in someone's garage since the 70's, untouched. The bike is pristine, with only a few paint scratches. One of the nicest details on the bike is the Gios pantographed and drillium chainring. The bike is full campy. Perfect for an Italian build. Some say dust caps are gauche, but I don't mind them. Makes this Gios one of the nicest looking track bikes I saw on the net. Finding one in such a good condition is rare. If you're in the neighborhood, swing through and check it out. They've got a few gems hanging from the rafters.

Check out some more photos below.

Can I have this, Mama?

How’s this for a nice change of pace? Independent Fabrications never ceases to amaze us with their craft and paint. Just look at that green sparkle! Check out some more photos at the IF blog!
